Exercise#7 (soft drinks )

Soft drinks effect your health

what is soft drink or soda drink as some people call it?
Soft drink is a drink that contains carbonated water, a sweetener and flavoring. It may contain also caffeine and coloring. Soft drinks can also come in several flavors such as Apple, Orange and Blueberry.
Why they call it a soft drink?
Soft drinks called “soft” in contrast of “hard drinks” which is alcoholic drinks. Small amount of alcohol may present in a soft drinks also. But not more than 0.5 % of the total volume.
Other ways it will be considered as alcoholic drinks. So here it is, if it’s less than 0.5 % it’s a soft drink if it’s more than that so it’s a hard drink.
How was the soft drinks started?
The first marketed soft drinks in the Western world appeared in the 17th century. They were made of water and lemon juice sweetened with honey.
In the late 18th century, scientists made important progress in replicating naturally carbonated mineral waters. In 1767, Englishman Joseph Priestley first discovered a method of infusing water with
Carbon dioxide to make carbonated water when he suspended a bowl of distilled water above a beer vat at a local brewery in England. His invention of carbonated water is the major and defining component of most soft drinks.

Priestley found that water treated in this manner had a pleasant taste, and he offered it to friends as a refreshing drink.

Over 1.5 billion people are overweight and at least 1 in 20 adults have diabetes

What is the advantage and disadvantage?
All the soft drinks has no benefits at all. It has only a lot of harmful content. After my all researches I couldn’t come out with even one advantage of the soft drinks. But on the other hand soft drink full of disadvantages. It can affect the body negatively by increasing the weight because one bottle of the soft drink has 33g of sugar and also could affect the bone density so the bone will be weak and easy to get broke. Soft drinks also can absorb the vitamins of the body because it has high concentration of phosphoric and citric acid and those two acids destroy the vitamins in the body and it also can cause a dental decay. Those are some of the disadvantages and there are more.

Is there any solution?
The best solution is to avoid these soft drinks totally and change it with fresh natural fruit juice. And to those who addicted to the soft drinks here is some advices to you
·     Prevent drinking the soft drinks with the food to avoid the negative affect on the vitamins.
·     Try to reduce the amount of the bottle that you drinks into two or one cup every week.
The schools should also teach the kids to stop drinking this kind of drinks.
